The Titans completely dominated the Saints last night in New Orleans.  Matt Hasselbeck made a brief appearance in which he completed 2 of 5 passes for 37 yards.  Rookie QB Jake Locker was sharp as he connected on 15 of 17 passes for 132 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 39 yards (13.0 ypc) with 1 TD run in this game.  Rusty Smith completed his only two pass attempts last night, good for 11 yards.  WRs Lavelle Hawkins (3 rec, 21 yards) and Damian Williams (3 rec for 18 yards, 1 punt return for a 52-yard TD) led the way in the passing game for the Titans last night.  The Titans finished up with 118 yards on 30 carries (3.9 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 24 passes (79.2%) for 175 yards in this game.

LBs Rennie Curran (8 tackles), Colin McCarthy (7 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 pass defensed) and Patrick Bailey (7 tackles, 1 fumble recovery) led the way for the Titans’ D in this game.  DT Karl Klug also had a huge impact on this game as he had 2 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 QB hits and 2 sacks (one of which was good for a safety.  DE Pannel Egboh (fumble recovery), CB Jason McCourty (fumble recovery), safety Tommie Campbell (interception) and safety Jodan Babineaux (interception) also made huge plays for the Titans’ D in this game.  The Saints finished up with 103 yards rushing on 26 carries (4.0 ypc) and they also completed 29 of 39 passes (74.4%) for 238 yards.  The Titans finished the preseason with a 3-1 record.

The Tennessee Titans are running the ball well in the preseason

Even with Chris Johnson’s holdout, the Titans are running the ball well.  Rookie 4th round pick Jamie Harper is the leading rusher on the team right now.  He has carried the ball 32 times for 146 yards (4.6 ypc) with 3 TD runs so far in the preseason as he has looked outstanding.  23-year old Stafon Johnson has also been really impressive for the Titans so far.  He has carried the ball 21 times for 108 yards (5.1 ypc).  Javon Ringer (the starting RB if Chris Johnson holds out) has only carried the ball 3 times for 17 yards (5.7 ypc) so far in the preseason.  The Titans need Chris Johnson back as soon as possible, but the Titans have to feel good about the RBs who are on the active roster right now.

Jake Locker has been so-so in the preseason for the Tennessee Titans

The Titans were smart to sign veteran Matt Hasselbeck to mentor rookie QB Jake Locker, but also so they can bring him along slowly.  Locker has played in all three preseason games for the Titans so far this preseason and he has completed 17 of 32 passes (53.1%) for 184 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT (67.7 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 5 times for 25 yards (5.0 ypc) so far in the preseason.  Locker has all of the tools to be a franchise type QB, but 2011 will be a learning year for Locker unless Hasselbeck gets hurt.
