The Tennessee Titans and Jeff Fisher part ways

The Tennessee Titans and 52-year old head coach Jeff Fisher have agree to part ways.  He has been bought out of the rest of his contract.  Fisher led the Titans to a very disappointing 6-10 record which included the nasty feud with Vince Young.  In 17 years with the Oilers/Titans, Fisher had a 142-120 (54.2%) record during the regular season.  He was also 5-6 (45.5%) during the post season in his time with the franchise.  The Titans were AFC Champions in 1999 and they lost Super Bowl XXXIV 23-16 to the St. Louis Rams.  The Titans did Fisher a little bit wrong by waiting until all of the head coaching vacancies were filled up.  It looks as if the Titans are going to promote someone from the current coaching staff to the head coaching job.

The Tennessee Titans sign Marques Douglas

The Titans have signed 33-year old DE Marques Douglas.  Douglas played in all 16 games for the Jets last season and he had 64 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble.  He has now played in 120 games in his NFL career and he has 436 tackles, 10 passes defensed, 20.5 sacks and 7 forced fumbles.  This was a good signing for the Titans as Douglas knows all the tricks and he will help the depth along the D-Line.  To make room for Douglas on the roster the Titans waived 29-year old DT Amon Gordon.  Gordon played in 3 games for the Titans this year and he had 2 tackles.

The Tennessee Titans release Jamie Winborn

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 10 October 2010 at 7:48 am

The Titans have released 31-year old LB Jamie Winborn.  Winborn played in all 4 games for the Titans so far this year and he had 9 tackles.  The Titans have activated linebacker Gerald McRath after his four game league suspension and they expect him to join the starting lineup today against the Cowboys.  McRath played in all 16 games as a rookie last season for the Titans and he had 47 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception.

UPDATE:  (10/14/2010) – The Titans have re-signed Winborn.

The Tennessee Titans cut Chris Simms

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 5 September 2010 at 4:46 pm

The Titans have released 30-year old QB Chris Simms and fans of the team should rejoice.  Simms played in 3 games (1 start) for the Broncos last year and he completed 5 of 17 passes (29.4%) for 23 yards with 0 TDs and 1 INT (15.1 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 3 times for -4 yards (-1.3 ypc) last year.  Simms was so awful last season that the Broncos brought Kyle Orton back into a game with torn ligaments in his ankle which he continued to play with the rest of the year.
