The Tennessee Titans (8-8) pulled out a close win against the Seattle Seahawks (5-11) in a meaningless game, but there were still headlines to be made.  Titans’ running back Chris Johnson became only the sixth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season, and he ended the game 5th on that list with 2,006 yards.  Johnson was the reasons the Titans one this game, rushing for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns on 36 carries.  His second touchdown came with 4:33 left in the game, which gave the Titans the lead for good.  Vince Young didn’t have a great game, going 17/28 for 171 yards and an interception, but his resurgence this season should give Titans’ fans some hope.

On defense, the Titans did a good job keeping Seahawks’ quarterback Matt Hasselbeck in check.  Hasselbeck went 15/30 for 175 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception.  They got some good pressure on Hasselbeck and forced a fumble, although they failed to recover it.  They did not do a good job stopping the run though, with the Seahawks getting 140 rushing yards as a team on just 26 carries.  The Titans missed the playoffs, but their season wasn’t all that terrible.  They showed a lot heart by not giving up this season after starting 0-6, going 8-2 the rest of the way.  Also, Chris Johnson had one of the best seasons by a running back ever.

The Titans picked the wrong time to lay an egg last night as the Chargers crushed them and ended their playoff hopes.  Vince Young played his worst game of the year last night as he completed 8 of 21 passes for 89 yards with 0 TD passes and 2 INTs.  He also carried the ball 6 times for 40 yards (6.7 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Chris Johnson had another great game with 21 carries for 142 yards (6.8 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 3 passes for 37 yards (12.3 avg).  Nate Washington led the way in the passing game for the Titans last night with 4 grabs for 39 yards (9.8 avg).  The Titans finished up with only 270 total yards on offense (182 rushing, 88 passing) as they only had possession of the ball for 20:53.

The injuries on defense caught up with the Titans last night as they looked hopeless against the Chargers.  Linebacker Stephen Tulloch led the way for the Titans with 10 tackles last night.  LBs Gerald McRath, Colin Allred and safety Chris Hope each had 8 tackles apiece last night.  The Chargers finished up with 425 total yards in this game on offense (166 rushing, 259 passing).  The Titans are now 7-8 on the year.

The Titans were cruising along in this game until the Dolphins rose up in the 4th quarter by scoring 15 unanswered points to send this game into O.T.  The Titans then got serious again pulling out a nice win that keeps them in the playoff hunt.  Despite being gimpy with a injured hamstring Vince Young played a good game.  He completed 14 of 27 passes for 236 yards with 3 TD passes and 1 INT and he also carried the ball 2 times for 24 yards (12.0 ypc).  Chris Johnson was a busy body with 29 carries for 104 yards (3.6 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 55 yards today.  Justin Gage (2 rec, 43 yards, 2 TDs), Nate Washington (1 rec, 32 yards, TD) and Bo Scaife (5 rec, 40 yards) pitched in for the Titans in the passing game.  The Titans finished up with 364 total yards on offense (128 rushing, 236 passing) in this game.

The defense gave up a lot of yards but they also made a lot of big plays to help the Titans win the game today.  LBs Stephen Tulloch (13 tackles, 1 QB hit) and Gerald McRath (11 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss) led the way for the Titans’ D today.  CB Nick Harper also had a solid game with 9 tackles, 1 pass defensed and a interception.  S Michael Griffin pitched in with 4 tackles, 2 passes defensed, 1 fumble recovery and 1 interception.  The Dolphins finished up with 468 total yards (121 rushing, 347 passing) of offense in this game.  The Titans are still in the playoff hunt with a 7-7 record.

The Tennessee Titans (6-7) gave the St. Louis Rams (1-12) a beating on Sunday, but they also took a little one themselves.  Vince Young left the game early after pulling his hamstring, but he should be okay and is listed as day-to-day.  He was able to do some damage before leaving, going 6/8 for 132 yards and a touchdown.  Kerry Collins filled in very nicely for the injured Young, throwing for 154 yards and 1 touchdown on 11/19 passes.  Chris Johnson was great once again, rushing for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns on 28 carries.  He also caught three passes for 69 yards and a touchdown.  Johnson became the first Titans’ player in franchise history with at least 2,000 yards from scrimmage in a season.

On defense the Titans took advantage of the inexperienced rookie Keith Null, who was starting in place of the injured Kyle Boller.  Boller was expected to play but he was a last minute scratch.  That left the starting quarterback duties to Null who had never even taken a snap yet in his young NFL career.  The Titans intercepted Null five times and were able to stack the line and shut down Steven Jackson.  Jackson rushed for a season-low 47 yards on 19 carries.  The lowly Rams were no match for the Titans, especially with Keith Null starting for them.  The playoff hopes are still alive for the Titans, but just barely.

The Titans never really seriously threatened the Colts in the game earlier today.  Vince Young had a decent game though completing 24 of 43 passes for 241 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 4 times for 16 yards (4.0 ypc).  Chris Johnson was busy as usual with 27 carries for 113 yards (4.2 ypc) and he also caught 6 passes for 28 yards (4.7 avg).  TE Bo Scaife (5 rec, 56 yards) and WR Kenny Britt (3 rec, 46 yards) each caught 1 TD pass apiece for the Titans today.  The Titans finished up with 375 total yards on offense (142 rushing, 233 passing) in this game. 

LB David Thornton led the way for the Titans on D in this game with 13 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss.  S Vincent Fuller (9 tackles) and LB Keith Bulluck (7 tackles) also pitched in on D.  The Colts finished up with 358 total yards in this game (88 rushing, 270 passing).  The Titans are now 5-7 on the season as this loss really hurt them as far as competing for the playoffs goes.
