The Tennessee Titans need more from Vince Young

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 29 November 2007 at 4:30 pm

For lack of a better word, Vince Young has been a stiff so far this season.  His horrible throwing mechanics are hurting him big-time so far this season.  He’s darn lucky that the Titans are averaging 132.0 yards rushing per game which has taken the pressure off of Young’s horrible passing.  Young has completed 162 of 264 passes (61.4%) for 1,663 yards with 5 TD passes and 13 interceptions (65.3 QB Rating) so far this season.  Young has also carried the ball 68 times for 297 yards (4.4 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  If Young doesn’t start throwing the ball better this season the Titans will not make the playoffs.

The Titans woke up the dormant Bengals and they paid for it on the field.  Vince Young completed 19 of 31 passes for 246 yards with a interceptions.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 6 yards and lost a fumble.  Chris Brown (8 car, 28 yards) and LenDale White (8 car, 27 yards) both split the carries on Sunday.  Justin Gage led the way in the receiving corps with 4 catches for 98 yards (24.5 avg).  Eric Moulds (2 rec, 54 yards) and Bo Scaife (5 rec, 33 yards) also pitched in on the passing attack.  The Titans finished up with 61 yards rushing on 18 carries (3.4 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 31 passes for 244.

The Jaguars got revenge on the Titans for their earlier win this season.  Vince Young was forced to pass because the Jags defense took away the running game from the Titans.  Young completed 24 of 41 passes for 257 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 interceptions.  He also carried the ball 8 times for 52 yards (6.5 ypc).  Justin Gage was the only other player on the offense that made an impact as he caught 7 passes for 90 yards (12.9 avg) with a TD grab.  The Titans finished up with 62 yards rushing on 19 carries (3.3 ypc) and they also completed 24 of 41 passes for 230 yards.

David Thornton (10 tackles) and Keith Bulluck (8 tackles) led the way for the Titans defense.  The Jags finished up with 166 yards rushing on 44 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 13 of 23 passes for 96 yards.

The Titans won this game with defense and the running game.  The Titans sacked Panther QBs 7 times and that was a big reason for the win.  DT Albert Haynesworth was unstoppable as he led the way for the Titans defense with 7 tackles and 3 sacks.  David Thornton (6 tackles, sack) and Chris Hope (tackles, interception) both added big plays to the defensive effort.  The Panthers finished with 78 yards rushing on 22 carries (3.5 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 32 passes for 113 yards.

Vince Young had another poor game for the Titans against the Panthers.  Young completed 14 of 23 passes for 110 yards with 2 interceptions.  He also carried the ball 8 times for 25 yards (3.1 ypc) with a TD.  LenDale White will be a tired puppy when he wakes up in the morning as he carried the ball 31 times for 100 yards (3.2 ypc) with a TD run.  TE Bo Scaife was the leading receiver in this game with 6 grabs for 35 yards (5.8 avg).  The Titans finished up this game with 140 yards rushing on 43 carries (3.3 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 23 passes for 96 yards.

It wasn’t a exciting game but the Titans grinded out a hard earned victory last Sunday.  Vince Young was back at QB but he didn’t do much as he completed 6 of 14 passes for 42 yards and he also carried the ball 7 times for 11 yards (1.6 ypc).  LenDale White had his best game of the season as he carried the ball 25 times for 133 yards (5.3 ypc) with a TD.  Rookie RB Chris Henry carried the ball 4 times for 48 yards (12.0 ypc) with a TD run.  The Titans finished up with 192 yards rushing on 36 carries (5.3 ypc) and they also completed 6 of 14 passes for 26 yards.

Linebacker David Thornton led the way on defense with 12 tackles.  Safety Chris Hope also had a big game with 6 tackles and a interception.  The Raiders finished up with 92 yards rushing on 27 carries (3.4 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 32 passes for 143 yards.

The Titans dominated this game in the first three quarters as they were leading the game 32-7 heading into the 4th quarter.  It then took a Kerry Collins drive with less than a minute to go to set up Rob Bironas for the 29 yard game winning field goal as time expired.  Baronas kicked an NFL record 8 field goals in this game and he finished with 26 points!  The Titans offense was pretty efficient as they held onto the football for 36:43 of this football game!  Kerry Collins got the start for an injured Vince Young and he completed 25 of 42 passes for 280 yards.  LenDale White had a very solid game running the football as he toted it 27 times for 104 yards (3.9 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 4 passes for 22 yards.  Rookie running back Chris Henry got his first action of the year and he looked good carrying the ball 11 times for 57 yards (5.2 ypc) with a TD run.  Roydell Williams had a huge game for the Titans as he caught the long pass that set up the game-winning field goal.  Williams finished up with 5 catches for 124 yards (24.8 avg).  Bo Scaife (6 rec, 49 yards) and Justin Gage (5 rec, 48 yards) also both pitched in to help out the passing game.  The Titans finished up this game rushing for 155 yards on 39 carries (4.0 ypc) and they also completed 25 of 42 passes for 267 yards.

CB Nick Harper had a game to remember as he had 8 tackles, 2 interceptions and he recovered 2 fumbles!  Linebacker Keith Bulluck also had another impressive game with 4 tackles, a fumble recovery and a interception.  The Texans only had the ball for 23:17 of this game and they still rung up 333 total yards and that can’t make the Titans coaches too happy.  The Texans on ran the ball 12 times for 39 yards (3.3 ypc) but they completed 27 of 44 passes for 294 yards.
