The Tennessee Titans are flying high into their bye week

The Titans go into the bye week with a 2-1 record having outscored their opponents 64-46 so far this season. Vince Young is proving that his rookie season was not a fluke as he has completed 42 of 67 passes (62.7%) for 426 yards with 3 TD passes and 2 interceptions (83.3 QB Rating). He also has carried the ball 21 times for 96 yards (4.6 ypc) with 1 TD run. The running backs are also off to outstanding starts as Chris Brown (247 yards) and LenDale White (180 yards) are leading the way for the Titans who are averaging 173.7 yards rushing per game this season. The biggest improvement has been in the receiving corps as Brandon Jones (10 rec, 136 yards) and Roydell Williams (7 rec, 109 yards) are both stepping up.

The defense is really improved this season. The Titans are only allowing 63.3 yards rushing per game (3.5 ypc) and they have held opposing QBs to a 69.1 rating. If the Titans continue to get this kind of effort from the defense, they will be in the playoffs this season.

Tennessee Titans 31, New Orleans Saints 14

The Tennessee Titans kicked the Saints butt earlier tonight. Vince Young was solid as usual as he completed 14 of 22 passes for 164 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 interception. Kerry Collins relieved Young for a series due to a minor injury and he completed all 4 of his pass attempts for 22 yards. LenDale White got a few tough yards as he had 17 carries for 50 yards (2.9 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 1 pass for 10 yards. Chris Brown also got some work in with 11 carries for 38 yards (3.5 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 18 yards (4.5 avg). WR Brandon Jones stepped up his game as he caught 4 passes for 73 yards (18.3 avg) with a TD. WR Roydell Williams (3 rec, 37 yards) and TE Bo Scaife (3 rec, 26 yards, TD) both pitched in on the passing game. The Titans finished up with 98 yards rushing on 34 carries (2.9 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 26 passes for 186 yards.

The Titans defense was stout. Linebacker David Thornton led the charge with 13 tackles. But, fellow linebacker Keith Bulluck had an incredible game as he made 4 tackles and intercepted 3 passes. Safety Vince Fuller made 2 tackles and he intercepted a pass that he returned 61 yards for a TD. The Titans held the Saints to a measley 34 yards rushing on 16 carries (2.1 ypc) and the Saints completed 29 of 45 passes for 218 yards but the Titans had 4 pickoffs.

Tennessee Titans vs. New Orleans Saints

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, This Week's Matchup Report, Front Page by squarebettor on Friday 21 September 2007 at 8:45 pm

The Saints desperately need a win as they are 0-2 and this will be their first home game of the season so they should be inspired to play well. The Titans are 1-1 on the season and they are the kind of physical football team that gives the finesse Saints team fits.  The Titans will attack the Saints on the ground as the Saints are allowing 125.5 yards rushing per game. Chris Brown (209 yards rushing), LenDale White (130 yards rushing) and Vince Young (75 yards rushing) will likely follow their offensive line right down the field as the Saints linebackers are soft. Look for the Titans to take a few shots down the field to Brandon Jones and Roydell Williams as the Saints allow opposing QBs to have a 137.1 Rating.

The Saints will likely try to pass to take advantage of the Titans secondary which is allowing 248.5 yards passing per game. The Saints would like to get the lead in the air and then grind out a victory on the ground with Reggie Bush and Deuce McAllister. If the Saints get the lead early it will take the Titans out of their preferred mode of transportation on offense which is the running game.

PREDICTION: I think the Saints will play a good football game on Monday Night and I think the crowd will inspire them to win the game by a field goal.

Vince Young is looking good for the Tennessee Titans this season

What Madden Curse? Vince Young is looking good for the Titans again this season. He is a threat from anywhere on the football field with his legs or his arm. Young has completed 28 of 45 passes (62.2%) for 262 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception (76.3 QB Rating). He also has carried the ball 16 times for 75 yards (4.7 ypc) with 1 TD run. Look for Young to continue having a fine season because he is protected by the Titans running game that is averaging 211.5 yards rushing per game this season.

Indianapolis Colts 22, Tennessee Titans 20

The Tennessee Titans put up a good fight with the Colts but they fell just a little bit short on the scoreboard. The Titans had a good plan on offense and they didn’t have trouble moving the football against the Colts’ defense. QB Vince Young completed 17 of 27 passes for 184 yards with 1 TD pass and he also carried the ball 5 times for 53 yards (10.6 ypc). LenDale White was also solid running the football as he toted the rock 15 times for 64 yards (4.3 ypc) with 1 TD run. Chris Brown couldn’t repeat his success of last week as he carried the ball 12 times for 34 yards (2.8 ypc). Young WRs Roydell Williams (4 rec, 72 yards, TD) and Brandon Jones (5 rec, 57 yards) both stepped up for the Titans yesterday in the passing game. The Titans finished up with 141 yards rushing on 34 carries (4.1 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 27 passes for 172 yards.

The defense was led by ex-Colts LB David Thornton (10 tackles) and ex-Colts CB Nick Harper (8 tackles). The Titans had issues with the passing game as they just couldn’t get to Peyton Manning. The Colts finished up completing 28 of 42 passes for 300 yards against the Titans defense. The Titans did hold the Colts to 81 yards on 22 carries (3.7 ypc) as their run defense continues to improve over last year.
