The Tennessee Titans lose rookie DE Jacob Ford for the season

The Titans have lost rookie Jacob Ford for the season after he tore his ACL in practice yesterday. This is a blow to both Ford and the Titans as they were going to give him an opportunity to contribute on defense because they need all the help that they can get on that side of the football.

Washington Redskins 14, Tennessee Titans 6

The Titans had to know they were in for a long night after Vince Young was told that he wouldn’t play because he missed curfew on Friday Night. Kerry Collins got the start and he was 10 for 17 for 79 yards passing. Tim Rattay followed him and he completed 13 of 21 passes for 123 yards but he lost a key fumble in the 4th quarter that resulted in a TD for the Redskins. The Titans decided to give all of their running backs some carries last night to see who wants the starting job and the results weren’t pretty. Rookie Chris Henry got the most carries but he didn’t do too much with them. He carried the ball 12 times for 42 yards (3.5 ypc). LenDale White was the favorite coming into the pre-season to be the man but he carried the ball 6 times for only 12 yards (2.0 ypc). Chris Brown is the veteran of this bunch and he didn’t run well either carrying the ball 9 times for 19 yards (2.1 ypc). Brandon Jones (3 rec, 34 yards) and Bo Scaife (4 rec, 27 yards) led the way for the Titans as receivers. The Titans wound up carrying the ball 34 times for 84 yards (2.5 ypc). They also completed 23 of 38 passes for 202 yards.

The Titans defense played surprisingly well last night against the Redskins. They held the Skins to 27 carries for 77 yards (2.9 ypc) and the Redskins completed 15 of 28 passes for 167 yards. Hopefully the Titans defense can build on this effort.

The Tennessee Titans are going young at fullback for the 2007 season

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Front Page by squarebettor on Thursday 9 August 2007 at 2:55 pm

Ahmard Hall was a rookie last season and he’s the likely starter at fullback for the Titans this season. He played in 14 games last season (7 starts) and he carried the football 7 times for 21 yards (3.0 ypc) and he also caught 15 passes for 138 yards (9.2 avg). Hall also had 6 tackles on special teams last season. Casey Cramer will back up Hall at fullback this season. He played in 15 games (0 starts) last season and he caught 2 passes for 8 yards (4.0 avg) and he also returned 3 kickoffs for 37 yards (12.3 avg). Cramer also was productive on special teams with 14 tackles last year. Over his career Cramer has played in 22 games (1 start) and he has caught 2 passes for 8 yards (4.0), returned 3 kickoffs for 37 yards (12.3 avg) and he has made 15 tackles.

The Tennessee Titans could have a battle for the kicker position

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Front Page by squarebettor on Sunday 5 August 2007 at 1:16 pm

The Titans would prefer to go with Rob Bironas who did a decent job for them last season but he had two surgeries in the off-season including one to a knee. He will have to prove he’s healthy in the pre-season to beat out undrafted rookie John Vaughn for the job. Bironas made 78.6% of his field goals last year and he also converted all 32 of his extra point attempts finishing with 98 points last season. Bironas was very accurate on kicks 39 yards and under as he hit 17 of 18 of them but he was only 5 for 10 on kicks of 40+ yards.

Bironas has now played in 32 NFL games and he has scored 197 points for and average of 6.2 points per game. He has made 45 of 57 (78.9%) of his field goals and 62 of 64 extra points. Look for Bironas to easily win the starting job if he’s healthy.

The Tennessee Titans lose rookie defensive tackle Antonio Johnson for the season

Blogged under Bloglockers, Breaking News, The Disabled LIst, Draft Report, Front Page by squarebettor on Saturday 4 August 2007 at 4:36 pm

The Titans have lost Antonio Johnson for the season as he will need major knee surgery. This is a shame because the Titans needed help on the D-Line and Johnson was going to get a chance at some playing time as a rookie.
