The Tennessee Titans go with a youthful running back corps in 2007
The Titans decided to let Travis Henry walk in the off-season despite rushing for 1,211 yards and 7 TDs last season for them. They have decided to have an open competition between LenDale White, Chris Brown and rookie Chris Henry. LenDale White appears to have the edge early on for the Titans. He played in 13 games (0 starts) for the Titans last season an he carried the ball 61 times for 244 yards (4.0 ypc) with 0 TD runs. He also caught 14 passes for 60 yards (4.3 avg). White is a banger in the mold of Jerome Bettis but he’s faster than the Bus. He also played in college for Titans’ offensive co-ordinator Norm Chow which could also give him an edge in winning the starting job.
Chris Brown signed on late in free agency after the Titans got a good look at what they had in mini-camp. Brown has banged up last season for the Titans as he played in only 5 games (3 starts) and he carried the ball 41 times for 156 yards (3.8 ypc) with 0 TD runs. He also caught 2 passes for 4 yards (2.0 avg). Brown is the most experienced running back on the Titans roster so he will have a fighting chance to win the starting job. He has played in 42 games (28 starts) in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 541 times for 2,295 yards (4.2 ypc) with 11 TD runs. He also has caught 55 passes for 539 yards (9.8 avg) with 2 TD grabs.
Chris Henry was a workout warrior heading up to the draft but eyes can be deceiving. I wonder if the Titans actually watched Henry play in college before they drafted him because he stunk. I will be stunned if Henry amounts to anything in the NFL.
Quinton Ganther only played in 2 games as a rookie and he didn’t start a game. Ganther didn’t have a carry as a rookie but it’s possible that he could surprise in Training Camp and move up the depth chart.
