2. (50) Chris Henry, RB

The Titans were desperate for a running back and it looked like it on draft day when they reached for Chris Henry in the 2nd round. Chris Henry was a workout warrior who improved his stature in the draft because he’s not a good football player. He never carried the load as the main man at Arizona and I have doubts that he will be a good NFL running back. Henry doesn’t always play hard and he always tries to bounce every run outside because he’s not very physical despite having good size (6’2″, 230 pounds). At Arizona, Henry carried the football 255 times for 859 yards (3.4 ypc) with 9 TD runs. He also caught 25 passes for 191 yards (7.6 avg) with 1 TD grab. Those are pathetic numbers when you consider that the Pac-10 is not exactly known for having elite defenses. The Titans blew this pick big-time!  Many of the running backs drafted after Henry will have longer and more productive careers than he will.

Chris Henry might surprize you. His numbers really don’t show his ability. Someone saw something in him and his numbers can only get better. You get top guys in there that have the big numbers and a big name, the pressure gets to them sometimes. The have to stay on top, but the little guy can prove himself and he has no where to go but up. Look at the past history of the NFL, the numbers one guys now weren’t the number one guys in the draft.

The Titans took him based on his workouts. But, measureables aren’t as important has how a player does on the field of play and Henry was a bust in college. He was a terrible running back in the Pac 10, which isn’t known to be a league packed with good defenses.
