3. (80) Paul Williams, WR

The Titans needed to get some help for Vince Young so they selected WR Paul Williams. Williams looks the part at 6′1″, 200 pounds and he runs a 4.41 40 yard dash. But he’s softer than a roll of Charmin toilet paper. He gets a bad case of alligator arms when he runs patterns across the middle of the field. In 39 games (18 starts) at Fresno State, Williams made 74 tackles for 1,048 yards (14.2 avg) with 8 TD receptions. It’s highly doubtful that Williams will ever be more than a #3 or #4 WR for the Titans as many better prospects were available at this juncture of the draft.

Thanks but No thanks Keyshawn

As I woke up on draft day, trying to get in gear for my Titans pick @ 19. Never realized how long it takes to get to pick 19. No matter, give me all the info I can get. Its like 5 months before anything really happens in the NFL. But all day I have to listen to this guy run his mouth about how he wants the Panthers to pick Jarrett so he will have a chance to play along someone of that caliber. Then gets the boot from Carolina, has a chance to play with one of the best up and coming players the league has seen, in VY. Able to make a difference on a team that, as much as I hate to admit this now, actually needed his experience. What does he do? Gets a desk job. One that now forces everyone who enjoys the NFL to hear him complain off the field now. Im just glad I have the oppurtunity the flip the channel when pregame comes on.

2. (50) Chris Henry, RB

The Titans were desperate for a running back and it looked like it on draft day when they reached for Chris Henry in the 2nd round. Chris Henry was a workout warrior who improved his stature in the draft because he’s not a good football player. He never carried the load as the main man at Arizona and I have doubts that he will be a good NFL running back. Henry doesn’t always play hard and he always tries to bounce every run outside because he’s not very physical despite having good size (6′2″, 230 pounds). At Arizona, Henry carried the football 255 times for 859 yards (3.4 ypc) with 9 TD runs. He also caught 25 passes for 191 yards (7.6 avg) with 1 TD grab. Those are pathetic numbers when you consider that the Pac-10 is not exactly known for having elite defenses. The Titans blew this pick big-time!  Many of the running backs drafted after Henry will have longer and more productive careers than he will.

David Givens unlikely to be ready for the 2007 season for the Tennessee Titans

David Givens had additional knee surgery six weeks ago and he is now doubtful to be ready for week #1 of the regular season. This has got to be a huge disappointment to the Titans front office that paid Givens a lot of money last season in free agency to be their #1 WR. Givens only played in 5 games in his rookie season last year and he only caught 8 passes for 104 yards (13.0 avg) with 0 TDs. He also carried the football 1 time for 3 yards.

1. (19) Michael Griffin, S

The problem with the Titans is that they got good too fast and it hurt them badly in draft position. But, you should always root for your team to win and they were a really pleasant surprise as most people thought they were one of the worst football teams in the NFL before the season started. The Titans needed help on both sides of the football and they felt that Michael Griffin was the best football player on the board, only time will tell if they were right. Griffin is a force on the football field as he has great ball skills and he’s a very willing run supporter. He’s an excellent hitter and he’s a fantastic special teams player as he blocked 8 kicks in his college career in Texas. In 50 games at Texas (28 starts), Griffin made 364 tackles, broke up 27 passes, intercepted 8 passes (41 return yards), forced 9 fumbles and recovered 7 fumbles. The Titans got an excellent football player with their first pick in the Draft.
