The Titans had a great draft

The Titans got their franchise QB in the first round and some other key pieces in this draft. All 10 draft picks made the team which is really a testament to the Titans front office and drafting ability. Here’s the breakdown:

Vince Young (QB) was the Titans first round pick. He was everything the Titans wanted and more as a rookie. He played in 15 games (13 starts) and he completed 184 of 357 passes (51.5%) for 2,199 yards with 12 TD passes and 13 interceptions for a QB Rating of 66.7.  He was also great at running the football as he carried it 83 times for 552 yards (6.7 ypc) with 7 TD runs. Look out for the Titans in the future as Vince Young has them progressing much faster than anyone could have possibly imagined.

LenDale White (RB) was the second round pick for the Titans and he has the look of a future starting RB in the NFL. He played in 13 games as a rookie and carried the ball 61 times for 244 yards (4.0 ypc). He also caught 14 passes for 60 yards (4.3 avg). White also returned 1 kickoff for 14 yards.

4th round pick Calvin Lowry (FS) was a little bit of a disappointment for the Titans as he played in all 16 games and made 11 tackles, defensed a pass and forced a fumble.Â

The other 4th round pick of the Titans is a keeper. ILB Stephen Tulloch played in all 16 games and made 47 tackles, had 1/2 a sack, one interception, defensed two passes and recovered a fumble. Tulloch is a future starter in the NFL and that could be soon.

5th round pick Terna Nande (OLB) only played in 1 game and made 1 tackle.

The other 5th round pick for the Titans, DT Jesse Mahelona, played in 10 games and made 11 tackles, had a sack and defensed a pass.

6th round pick (WR) Jonathan Orr didn’t play a down for the Titans.

In the 7th round the Titans hit gold. CB Cortland Finnegan played in all 16 games and he registered 70 tackles, had 2 sacks, defensed 7 passes, forced a fumble and recovered two fumbles…one of which he returned for a TD. What a fantastic pick as the Titans found a starting CB in the 7th round!

OLB Spencer Toone was drafted in the 7th round and he played in three games and didn’t do anything to get a stat.

RB Quinton Ganther was the last 7th round pick of the Titans and he played in two games and did nothing.

Titans running game made the offense go

The Titans running game is what made the offense go this past season. Sure, Vince Young had alot to do with that but the running backs played well for the Titans. They were led by Travis Henry who rushed for over 1,200 yards in a season for the third time in his career. He played in 14 games (13 starts) and carried the ball 270 times for 1,211 yards (4.5 ypc) with 7 TD runs. He also caught 18 passes for 78 yards (4.3 avg). For his career, Henry has played in 78 games (62 starts) and he’s carried the ball 1,321 times for 5,395 yards (4.1 ypc) with 34 TD runs. He also has caught 134 passes for 886 yards (6.6 avg) with 2 TD grabs.

Rookie LenDale White had an up and down rookie season. He got into some trouble during the season for spitting on a teammate in practice, but he did o.k. in game action on the field. He played in 13 games and carried the ball 61 times for 244 yards (4.0 ypc). He also caught 14 passes for 60 yards (4.3 avg).

Chris Brown was the forgotten man on the Titans. He only played in 5 games (3 starts) and carried the ball 41 times for 156 yards (3.8 ypc). He also caught 2 passes for 4 yards (2.0 avg). For his career, Brown has played in 42 games (28 starts) and he’s carried the football 541 times for 2,295 yards (4.2 ypc) with 11 TD runs. He also has caught 55 passes for 539 yards (9.8 avg) with 2 TD catches.

Rookie fullback Ahmard Hall played in 14 games (7 starts) and carried the ball 7 times for 21 yards (3.0 ypc). He also caught 15 passes for 138 yards (9.2 avg).

Jeff Fisher does great job this season

Jeff Fisher did an outstanding job this season with the young Tennessee Titans. He picked the right time to play Vince Young and he made sure that he protected him with the gameplan. The Titans finished at 8-8 on the season which pushed Fisher’s record to 105-93 (53%) during the regular season. He has a playoff record of 5-4.

Vince Young gives the Titans a glimpse of the future

Vince Young is quite simply a winner. He wasn’t supposed to start this season, but the Titans got off to such an awful start that Coach Fisher just threw him into the fire and he really showed great leadership and running ability as a rookie. Vince Young played in 15 games (13 starts) and completed 184 of 357 passes (51.5%) for 2,199 yards with 12 TD passes and 13 interceptions (66.7 QB Rating). He also carried the ball 83 times for 552 yards (6.7 ypc) with 7 TD runs.

Kerry Collins started the season for the Titans but was replaced after starting the first three games. Collins played in 4 games (3 starts) and completed 42 of 90 passes (46.7%) for 549 yards with 1 TD pass and 6 interceptions (42.3 QB Rating). For his career, Collins has played in 156 games (148 starts) and he has completed 2,868 of 5,172 passes (55.5%) for 34,186 yards with 174 TD passes and 172 interceptions (73.2 QB Rating). He also carried the ball 323 times for 625 yards (1.9 ypc) with 9 TD runs.
