Titans win 5th game in a row 24-17 over the Jaguars

The Titans won this game with their opportunistic defense. Pac Man Jones returned an interception 83 yards for a TD. CB Cortland Finnegan returned a fumble 92 yards for a TD. Chris Hope also returned an interception 61 yards for a TD. Chris Hope also had 10 tackles. Keith Bulluck also was very active with 10 tackles and a sack. Rookie Stephen Tulloch pitched in with 11 tackles. The Jags got alot of yards, but the Titans defense outscored the Jags offense! The Jags carried the ball 40 times for 202 yards (5.0 ypc). The Jags also completed 22 of 37 passes for 194 net yards passing.

The offense didn’t do much with the ball. They only had the ball for 15:38 of the game as the Jags were hogging the ball. Vince Young completed 8 of 15 passes for 85 yards and had 4 carries for 4 yards. Travis Henry had a tough game with 12 carries for 37 yards (3.1 ypc). Bobby Wade let the Titans with 3 catches for 48 yards.

The Titans improved to 7-7 on the season with this win that was gift-wrapped for them by the Jaguars.

Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Blogged under Bloglockers, This Week's Matchup Report, Front Page by leoquijano on Friday 15 December 2006 at 5:53 pm

This should be a very interesting football game. The Jaguars have won their last two games including last week’s total domination of the Indianapolis Colts 44-17! The Tennessee Titans are on fire as they’ve won 4 in a row including last week’s 26-20 OT victory over the Houston Texans.

The Jaguars will run the ball against the Titans just like the first time they played them. The Jaguars ran for 375 yards last week against the Colts and the Titans have allowed 140.9 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry so far this season. Look for Fred Taylor (1,083 yards rushing) if healthy, and Maurice Drew (666 yards rushing, 6.1 ypc) to definately get their yards. David Garrard will also take off and get some rushing yards against the Titans. Don’t look for the Jags to throw the ball much, unless the Titans somehow step up and stop their running game, which isn’t likely.

The Titans, who are averaging 140.2 yards rushing per game will test the Jags tough run defense that is only allowing 87.1 yards rushing and 3.4 yards per carry. Still, if Travis Henry (937 yards rushing) is healthy enough to play, he should get his yards. If he can’t play, Chris Brown and LenDale White will split the carries. Vince Young (458 yards rushing, 6.6 ypc) will also get some yards running the football. Vince Young is improving as a passer, but he still better not challenge Rashean Mathis who has 7 interceptions this season.

The Jaguars punished the Titans 37-7 in the first meeting between these teams, but this could be a little different. The Jags are only 2-4 on the road. They punished the Colts at home, but lost to them on the road. The Titans are on a magical roll and they also beat the Colts at home. For some reason, and it’s not logic, I think the Titans are going to win this game at home.

Keith Bulluck and Chris Hope leading way on defense

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page by leoquijano on Thursday 14 December 2006 at 5:16 pm

Keith Bulluck has been the best defender on the Titans since the day he was drafted by the team. He’s a sure, hard-hitting tackler that is also a playmaker. Bulluck has 117 tackles, 1.5 sacks, an interception, 6 passes defensed and 2 forced fumbles. Opposing teams must always account for where Bulluck is lining up on the field.

Free agent signee Chris Hope is proving to be worth every dime the Titans are paying him. He has 102 tackles, 3 interceptions and has defensed 8 passes.Â

The Titans will need to help these guys in the draft and free-agency next season but at least they have a couple building blocks.

Travis Henry could miss this weeks game

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Disabled LIst, Front Page by leoquijano on Tuesday 12 December 2006 at 3:38 pm

Travis Henry had to leave last week’s game after he injured his ankle and he might not be able to play Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Chris Brown could get the start, as he played well after replacing Henry last week against the Texans.

Offense plays well in 26-20 win in OT over the Texans

Vince Young wanted to play for the Texans and for his hometown, but they took Mario Williams instead because they already had David Carr at QB. So Vince beat them with a 39 yard TD run in OT! Vince Young completed 19 of 29 passes for 218 yards and an INT. He also carried the ball 7 times for 86 yards (12.3 ypc) and a TD. Travis Henry carried the ball 20 times for 88 yards (4.4 ypc) and 2 TDs. Chris Brown finally got a little action and carried the ball 4 times for 44 yards (11.0 ypc). Drew Bennett had a great game catching 6 passes for 113 yards.

The defense played better than usual, but it helped that the offense held the ball so long. The Texans carried the ball 30 times for 107 yards (3.6 ypc). The Texans completed 17 of 23 passes for 133 net yards passing.

The Titans improved to 6-7 on the season. They are way ahead of schedule so far this season.
