The Titans are coming off of their best football game of the season, losing 14-13 to the Colts. The Redskins are trying to bounce back from a beating that the Giants applied to them last week (19-3).

The Titans would love to use the same gameplan they used against the Colts. The bad news for the Titans is that the Redskins have a good run defense (94.4 yards per game, 3.5 yards per carry). With the Titans defense being so awful, it seems to me that Coach Fisher will try to run anyway. Travis Henry (205 yards rushing) and LenDale White (111 yards rushing) will be the main ball carries and Vince Young will take off once in a while (70 yards). Opposing teams have thrown the ball well against the Redskins, averaging 236.6 yards passing and posting a QB rating of 95.4. The Titans just aren’t equipped on offense to take advantage of that weakness.

The Redskins have to be licking their chops. The Titans allow 172.4 yards rushing per game and 4.7 yards per carry.  Clinton Portis probably can’t wait until Sunday! Portis has 313 yards rushing this season, and when he’s done putting up his numbers for the day….it will be Ledell Betts turn (225 yards rushing). The Titans pass defense is pretty poor too. The Titans allow 202.4 yards passing per game, 67.8% completions and a opposing QB rating of 99.3.  Look for Mark Brunell to rebound after a bad game against the Giants. Santana Moss should be able to beat the Titans all day long (20 rec, 365 yards). Also look for Brunell to get TE Chris Cooley and WR Antwaan Randle El more involved in the passing game.

This game will be a blowout. The Titans just don’t match up well with the Redskins.Â

The Titans are pretty average on special teams. The Titans have done ok on punt returns holding the opponent to 7.5 yards per punt return. The Titans need to tighten their kick-off coverage a little bit, as they are allowing 24.3 yards per kick return.

Rob Bironas has made 5 of 6 FGs and all 3 XPTs. Punter Craig Hentrich has done pretty well this season averaging 41.1 yards per punt, 36.2 net yards and has pinned the opponent inside their 20 34.5% of the time.

Pac Man Jones has averaged 8.5 yards per punt return and 20.8 yards per kick-off return. WR Bobby Wade has got an opportunity on kick-off returns and he’s done well averaging 25.8 yards per return.

The Titans came out with an almost perfect gameplan but fell in the end. Vince Young completed 10 of 21 passes for 63 yards and an INT, but he also carried the ball 4 times for 43 yards and had an electrifying TD run. Travis Henry exploded for 123 yards on 19 carries (6.5 ypc). Rookie LenDale White looked good carrying the ball 8 times for 48 yards (6.0 ypc). Brandon Jones caught 3 passes for 40 yards.

LBs David Thornton (ex-Colt) and Keith Bulluck were all over the football field. Thornton racked up 12 tackles and Bulluck had 8 tackles, a fumble recovery and defensed 2 passes. The Colts still managed to run the ball 34 times for 154 yards (4.5 ypc). The Titans played well against Peyton Manning holding the Colts to 166 net yards passing (20 of 31 complete).

The Titans played a great game and know have something to build on, even though it was a loss.

High priced free agent wide receiver David Givens is out indefinately after breaking his thumb against the Cowboys last Sunday. Young WR Brandon Jones will take over. Jones flashed potential last season, but has proven to be injury prone so far in his career.

This is the biggest NFL mis-match in a long time. The point spread opened at 18.5 and it’s warranted.Â

It the Titans were smart, they wouldn’t even let Vince Young attempt a pass until the second quarter. The Colts have been getting brutalized on the ground, as they’ve allowed 155.0 yards rushing per game and 4.8 yards per carry. Of course, for that to work Chris Brown (106 yards rushing), Travis Henry (82 yards rushing) or LenDale White (63 yards rushing) must carry the load. The Titans will have to run alot of short pass routes when they throw to keep Ends Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis off of Vince Young’s back.

The Colts should have no problem doing whatever they want on offense against the Titans. The Titans defense allows 177.0 yards per game rushing, and opposing QB’s have a rating of 102.8 vs. the Titans. Look for the Colts to work on their running game with Joe Addai (207 yards rushing) and Dominic Rhodes (189 yards rushing). WR Marvin Harrison (29 rec, 413 yards) and Reggie Wayne (18 rec, 358 yards) will have huge games if Peyton Manning (1,112 yards passing) wants them to.

The Colts will win this game by as many points as they want to. The Colts could score everytime they get the football.

Albert Haynesworth was suspended for five games for his actions on Sunday when he stomped on Andre Gurode’s head. Gurode’s helmet was off and he was laying defenseless on the ground when Haynesworth stomped on his head and it took 30 stitches to close the gash. Randy Starks will replace Haynesworth at tackle. The Titans defense will be hurt by this and they’re already awful. Haynesworth is one of their best run defenders, and they were already allowing 177 yards rushing per game with him playing.

Kerry Collins just couldn’t cut it anymore, so the Titans are turning to Vince Young. Young is an exciting athlete, but he has alot to learn as an NFL QB. Young has completed 24 of 53 passes (45.3%) for 288 yards with 2 TDs and 3 INT. Young has a QB rating of 51.5 so far in his young career. Young also has run the ball 10 times for 27 yards and he should run alot to avoid taking sacks with this offensive line.

Kerry Collins was just awful. He completed 42 of 90 passes (46.7%) for 549 yards with 1 TD and 6 INT. His QB rating was a lousy 42.3. The only way he will get back on the field is an injury to Vince Young. If Vince Young stays healthy all Collins will have to do the rest of the year is cash paychecks.

The Dallas Cowboys absolutely pasted the Tennessee Titans 45-14 in Vince Young’s first NFL start. Young had a rough day as he completed 14 of 29 passes for 179 yards with 1 TD and 2 INT (one of the INT was returned for a TD). Young also carried the ball 5 times for 3 yards and lost a fumble. The running game didn’t exactly help Young out. LenDale White had 9 carries for 39 yards and Chris Brown carried the ball 12 times for 33 yards. WR Bobby Wade caught 3 passes for 45 yards. TEs Bo Scaife caught 3 passes for 40 yards and Ben Troupe caught 3 passes for 39 yards and a TD. The Cowboys shut down the Titans top 2 WRs. Drew Bennett caught 2 passes for 10 yards and David Givens caught 1 pass for 3 yards.

Chris Hope and Keith Bulluck both came to play….to bad the other 9 guys on defense didn’t. Chris Hope had 10 tackles and an interception and Bulluck had 9 tackles. The Cowboys pushed the Titans around in the running game, carying the ball 41 times for 217 yards (5.3 ypc). The Titans allowed the Cowboys to complete 13 of 20 passes for 179 net yards passing.

Vince Young is being tossed to the wolves in his first start against a good Dallas Cowboys defense. Young has completed 10 of 23 passes (43.5%) for 133 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. Young also has run the ball 5 times for 24 yards (4.8 ypc). The Titans were sick of waiting around for Kerry Collins (42.3 QB rating) to start playing well and figured they have nothing to lose by starting Young now instead of later. Young will need to use all of his ability (running and throwing) to keep himself from getting beat up today.

The Titans defense has been a mess so far this season, but alot of the blame for that should go on the offense. The offense has been turning the ball over, losing the time of possession war because of having no running attack and providing short fields for the opposition. LB Keith Bulluck is still the heat-seeking missile he has always been, with 30 tackles and a sack so far this season. Free-agent pick-ups Chris Hope and David Thornton are playing well too. Hope has 31 tackles and Thornton has 24 tackles.
