Titans accept gift win from Texans 28-22

The Titans didn’t play well on offense OR defense, but still won the game thanks to a couple huge plays that went the Titans way. Reserve DE Tony Brown picked up a David Carr fumble, and returned it 40 yards for a TD. Pacman Jones returned a punt 53 yards for a TD. Vince Young completed 7 of 15 passes for 87 yards and a TD. Young also carried the ball 4 times for 44 yards and a TD. Travis Henry was getting stuffed all day long by the Texans, carrying the ball 15 times for 29 yards (1.9 ypc). LenDale White carried the ball 7 times for 35 yards (5.0 ypc). WR Bobby Wade caught 2 passes for 30 yards and a TD.

The defense was on the field along time in this game, and they didn’t really play that well. Keith Bulluck led the way with 13 tackles. LB Peter Sirmon chipped in with 10 tackles. DE Kyle Vander Bosch had 4 tackles and 2 sacks. Pacman Jones had a huge game with 7 tackles, an interception and a punt return (53 yards) for a TD. S Chris Hope had 5 tackles and an interception. The Texans ran all over the Titans, carrying the ball 26 times for 148 yards (5.7 ypc). The Texans completed 33 of 46 passes for 279 net yards passing.

Titans lose starting guard for season

Zach Piller has been placed on Injured Reserve ending his season with an injured ankle. It’s never good news for a young starting quarterback to lose offensive linemen.

Titans vs. Texans

Blogged under This Week's Matchup Report, Front Page by leoquijano on Wednesday 25 October 2006 at 11:49 am

This is a game that pits two young teams that each won their last football game and are starting to come together.

Texans fans would love nothing more than for their team to beat the team that was STOLEN from them!  The Texans running game finally showed life last week against a tough Jaguars defense and they should have alot of success running against the “Super Soft” Titans run defense. The Titans allow 164.5 yards rushing per game and 4.7 yards per carry! Rookie RB Wali Lundy (150 rushing yards, 4.2 ypc) will get first shot against the Titans run defense. Samkon Gado also looks like he’s ready to produce after having a decent game last week. The Texans should have no problem throwing the ball against the Titans defense which allows a 94.1 opponents QB rating. Look for David Carr (1,217 yards passing) to attack the Titans with Andre Johnson (47 rec, 591 yards) and Eric Moulds (25 rec, 290 yards).

The Titans will look to continue with what’s been working for them on offense, which is running the football. Travis Henry (383 yards rushing, 4.7 ypc) will get the bulk of the carries against a Texans defense that allows 138.5 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry. QB Vince Young (512 yards passing, 56.5 QB rating) is not ready to attack the Texans secondary which allows 247.2 yards and 66% completions.

This should be a great game to watch, but I have a feeling the Texans are the better team

Titans by the numbers

The Titans haven’t played well on offense only averaging 14.2 points per game. The Titans have turned into a pretty good running football team after Vince Young took over at QB. The Titans are averaging 114.8 yards rushing per game and 4.2 yards per carry. The running game is essential to shorten the game and keep the opposing offense off of the field. The Titans need to work on their passing game as they only average 170.5 net yards passing and only complete 47.1% of their passes.

The Titans defense is pathetic, as it allows 26.2 points per game. The Titans really get pushed around in the running game as their opponents average 164.5 yards rushing per game and 4.7 yards per carry! The pass defense is not much better for them. Opponents average 198.7 net yards passing and complete 65.3% of their pass attempts!
