Titans pushed around a little despite the score

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by leoquijano on Monday 14 August 2006 at 1:00 am

The final score doesn’t tell the whole story in the Titans 19-16 loss to the Saints. The Saints rolled up 401 yards and the Titans could only muster 219. Vince Young had an up and down night. Young looked good running the ball as he rushed 4 times for 28 yards. Young had a rough time passing the ball completing only 4 of 11 passes for 56 yards. Young also hurt his ankle, but it doesn’t seem serious. LenDale White didn’t play after spitting on a defensive player in practice and is falling behind Chris Brown and Travis Henry. Brown rushed 9 times for 47 yards and Travis Henry rushed 10 times for 23 yards and a TD.

Quinton Ganther (7, RB)

Ganther is a short guy at 5’9″, but don’t let that fool you. Ganther is a power runner that’s hard to tackle because his 218 pounds is packed on that short body. He is also quick and is a viewed by the Titans as a change of pace back.

Spencer Toone (7, LB)

Toone is a big (6’2″, 240), fast linebacker. Toone will probably have to make his mark on special teams before he gets a chance to play any defense.

Cortland Finnegan (7, CB)

Finnegan is a fast corner but he played at Samford. He will probably start out on special teams (he has some experience returning kicks) and go from there.

Jonathan Orr (6, WR)

Orr has all the physical talent you look for in a receiver. He has good size (6’1″, 193) and rare speed (4.34 40), but he’s not exceptionally tough and doesn’t like to go over the middle. He tended to coast at Wisconsin, because he always wanted to run deep and didn’t have much interest in blocking in the running game. If Coach Fisher can motivate this kid….he might just have something.

Orr played in 52 games at Wisconsin (26 starts) and caught 107 passes for 1,824 yards (17.0 avg) and 19 TDs.

Jesse Mahelona (5, DT)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Draft Report,Front Page by leoquijano on Saturday 12 August 2006 at 9:20 am

Mahelona plays all out every play. He is a very top heavy player because he has short legs, which causes him to lose his balance frequently. Mahelona is not a player that can handle a double-team, but he has the quickness to beat a single block to the gap. Mahelona makes alot of plays on the other teams side of the ball.

Mahelona played 24 games at Tennessee (18 starts) and made 77 tackles, 26.5 tackles for a loss and had 7 sacks.

Terna Nande (5, OLB)

Nande is an incredible athlete. He is 6’2″, 222 and runs a 4.45 40. He’s a heat-seeking missile that always goes for the big hit. He also misses sometimes with that mentality. He’s best suited to be a special team assassin for now, and maybe much more later.

Stephen Tullock (4, ILB)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Draft Report,Front Page by leoquijano on Saturday 12 August 2006 at 9:10 am

Tullock is a hard-nosed linebacker that makes alot of plays in the opposing backfield because of his speed (4.7 40). He plays very hard and gets to the ball. He needs protection from the defensive line because of his lack of size (5’10″, 230). He can be engulfed in the run game by a team that runs power ball right at him.

Tulloch played in 35 games at NC St. (18 starts) and made 285 tackles, 35.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, broke up 5 passes and had one interception.

Calvin Lowry (4, S)

Lowry has the look of a back-up safety and special teams player. He can make plays in the running game, but is a little slow for a safety and could get beaten with regularity deep. If he could just get a little faster, he might be a starter someday….but it’s a thin line.

Lowry played in 39 games at Penn State (26 starts) and made 163 tackles, broke up 4 passes, intercepted nine passes and recovered 4 fumbles.

LenDale White (2, RB)

LenDale White is a tough runner that is a great finisher. He has good size (6’1″, 235) and enough speed (4.55 40) to give defensive players headaches. He runs a little light on his feet for a guy his size, but he also makes cuts that a back his size shouldn’t be able to make. White is a touchdown-maker that will soon push Chris Brown and Travis Henry out of his way.

White played in 39 games at USC (11 starts) and rushed for 3,159 yards (5.8 ypc) and 52 TDs! He also caught 31 passes for 331 yards (10.7 avg) and 5 TDs.
