Chris Brown demands trade at a strange time

Running back Chris Brown has picked a strange time to demand a trade. The often brittle Brown is going to face stiff competition in Training Camp from rookie LenDale White and the oft-troubled Travis Henry. The Titans have been working hard to improve their running game in camp, and had to be thrilled that LenDale White fell to them in the second round. Maybe that is what has gotten under Browns’ skin. Brown is a talented back when he’s not nicked up (which happens quite alot). Browns’ toughness has come into question many times, but he’s a very skilled running back. Brown has played in 37 games (25 starts) and has rushed for 2,139 yards (4.3 ypc) with 11 TDs rushing. Brown has also caught 53 passes for 535 yards and 2 TD.

LenDale White is a touchdown machine from USC. When White gets near the goal-line he’s going to score. White’s running style is similar to a young Jerome Bettis. White is a big back (6′1″, 235) that played in 39 games at USC (only 11 starts) and rushed for 3,159 yards (5.8 ypc) with as astounding 52 rushing touchdowns. White also has caught 31 passes for 331 yards and has caught 5 TD passes. White is the back of the future for the Titans, and it will be soon if not now.

Travis Henry is one strike away from getting a long vacation. Henry is a tough runner (once playing on a fractured ankle in Buffalo and still running for 100 yards that day) that tends to wear down a defense. Henry has played in 64 games (49 starts) and has 4,184 career yards rushing (4.0 ypc) with 27 TD runs. Henry also has caught 116 passes for 808 yards and 2 of them were TDs.

Kerry Collins coming to town?

Kerry Collins took a physical for the Titans yesterday. If he signs, that would be bad news for Billy Volek…because Collins has never been a back-up quarterback. Last season Collins started 15 games for the Raiders and threw for 3,759 yards with 20 TD passes and 12 interceptions. For his career, Collins has played in 152 games and completed 55.6% of his passes for 33,637 yards with 173 TD passes and 166 interceptions for a career rating of 73.8. Collins still has the big arm he always has had, and the thought here is that he would beat Billy Volek out and push Vince Young to #3.

Vince or Volek?

My gut tells me that it will be Billy Volek that starts the season as the #1 QB. Volek has been waiting for McNair to leave or quit, and when he finally does here comes Vince Young to town. Volek will probably just keep the seat warm until Young is ready to go, so there’s no need to rush Young. Volek has played in 24 games (10 starts) and has completed 60.3% of his passes for 3,505 yards with 26 TD passes and 13 interceptions for a career QB rating of 86.9. Volek should put up good numbers and he might make Vince wait a year if he performs well.

Vince Young has only one elite season under his belt, but boy was it a special one. Young has the arm strength and the scrambling ability to be a very good NFL starting QB, but to do it this season is a reach. Young operated out of a shotgun offense which no team uses in the NFL, so it might take him a little time to get used to playing under the center again. Young played 35 games at Texas (32 starts) and completed 61.8% of his passes for 6,040 yards with 44 TD passes and 28 interceptions. It will be interesting to see how Young develops in the NFL.

Matt Mauck will be the #3 QB of the Titans. He has only played in two games (one start) and completed 55.6% of his passes for 136 yards with no touchdown passes and one interception for a QB rating of 53.9.
